Abstract

Bone marrow transplantation (BMT) has become a clinical relevant method to treat a variety of oncological, hematological and genetic disorders. One complication of BMT is graft-versus-host disease(GVHD) which can occur in 40~85% of patients who
have
been transplanted with HLA matched sibling marrow, and is responsible directly or indirectly for about 25% of the mortality seen after BMT. Prevention and treatment of GVHD is only partially successful at present time. Recently, the mechanisms
underlying the GVHD process have more clear. In this manuscript, the immunopathology of acute and chronic GVHD, clinical features, diagnosis, prevention and treatment is discussed.
